Empowering News August 2018

July-August 2018 Peter's Report

Joe Dewar from Gingin travelled to Tanzania with me to see the project and lend a hand for three weeks. Joe is a innovative young farmer and is good with machinery and had lots of valuable insights.

Dawar Village Trip. “This is farming”

We traveled out to Dawar village to see our main farmers group. They have had a difficult year with floods in much of the village.

When the waters receded weeds and bugs abounded, and further hindered the crops around the village. Most of our 10 farmers had difficulties, though some crops were reasonable. Marko and our team planted a 20 acre crop for the project. It yielded 15 tons of maize which was a good yield in difficult circumstances.

Two Machines ready for work

We completed a new planter, which is now ready for work, and we serviced our first machine and set it up for planting Sunflower, Wheat and Beans, (as well as Maize). It had been ‘jigged’ for Maize and Pigeon Peas.

A New sub-soil ripper Joe welded up a new Sub-soil Ripper which is so essential in Tanzania for breaking up the deep compaction in the soil. This allows the rain to penetrate into the sub-soil.

The Best crop in the country!

It has been a difficult year for farmers all over northern Tanzania. It was amazing for us to arrive at Upper Kiteti and find the best crop we had seen anywhere, growing on the Church block right outside our workshop! This is a real testimony to Pastor Mathew and his people. It shows what faithful stewardship and lots of prayer can do,even in a bad year!

Our New Office! Finance Reports

We now have an official office at Agape Bible School! It will really help with our administration and book keeping. We have streamlined our accounting and our books are up to date and audited! Polycarp is in charge of the accounts and he has done a great job.

One day Safari

Before Joe left for home, Polycarp drove us on a safari to Tarangire, which is a game park near to Arusha. We had a really great time and were thrilled to see lots of animals, large and small.
